Mohamed Abdikadir
Mohamed Abdikadir (Stanza) was born to a middle class family in the coastal city, Kismayo – Southern Somalia, in 1977. His parental ancestors were originally from the Somali-populated Northeastern Province of Kenya, where his mother, who was a story-teller, is interred and his father and most of his siblings still live as Kenyan citizens. Mohamed’s creative teething was solidified by his mother’s oral bedtime stories about Somali fable and legendary narrations. That motherly mores made him glitterati.
Daud is a productive and prolific poet, song-writer, novelist, child rights activist, professional interpreter and independent journalist whose literary and artistic works in English and Somali acclaimed him solid recognition from his international literary readers of all walks of life, respectively.
He is among the most influential English-Speaking Somali contemporary poets and novelists of his time, therefore, the inspiring themes of his major works gave him global recognition, as he extensively writes about patriotism, peace, unity, romance and on the day-to-day life. Some of his cults call him 'The Dean of the Somali poets.' He is the author of the best-selling anthologies - Single Kiss, Mettle of the Mind and Haldoor, and as well as the two novels: The Beaming Blood and Plight and Progress.
He holds three years Diploma with Distinction, Bachelor Degree with Division One in Arts and Humanity Studies from the prestigious University of Juba, then in Sudan and now in the Republic of South Sudan, and he majors in English language and literature. He was one of the best students in his batch from the freshman courses and led his batch in the final year of graduation. He also holds Postgraduate Diploma with Distinction in Peace and Development Studies and Master’s Degree in Peace and Development Studies from the leading University of Bahri and specialises in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution as major profession.
He taught English Language and Creative Writing at Entry System International Centre for English Language and Computer Studies in Khartoum, and English at Alhakim Centre for English Studies in Khartoum. He is the Co-founder of Somali Poets Club in Sudan and held the post of General Advisor, Somali Journalists Association in Sudan which he became its Foreign Affairs Secretary and Mentor, Somali Arts and Culture Association in Sudan that he became its Foreign Affairs Secretary, Middle Juba Students Association that he served for the post of Chairman, Haldoor – Somali Language Monthly Magazine, at which he was its General Manager and Editor. He authors on lots of different local and global websites where he contributes to the culture of global peace.
Being trained and certified by the United Nations as interpreter, he worked with UNHCR as a Somali and English interpreter, form-filler and interviewer. He worked with JVA as a Somali and English interpreter. He worked with IOM as Arabic and English cross-cultural interpreter in the cultural orientation programme, ‘Norway in a Nutshell.’ He worked with Save the Children as a data collector, community mobiliser and interpreter. He worked with the Norwegian Directorate of Integration and Diversity as Arabic and English interpreter. He worked with Australian Migration as a form-filler. He worked with Resettlement Support Centre as an Arabic-English interpreter. Most of those duties were contract-based duties that the author served with the best UN code of conduct.
Being trained by UNHCR on UNHCR Mandate and Interpretation, he advised the Somali refugees in Sudan about the danger of illegal migration, human trafficking and gender-based violence against women. As he was trained by UNHCR and Save the Children for Child Rights Protection, he became the Head of Somali Community Based Child Rights Protection Network in Khartoum from 2007 to 2010. He was also trained as a child rights protection activist by Child Rights Institute in Khartoum, UNHCR and Save the Children.
