CAUGHT IN TRANSICIONThe gran question of always
every time que conoces new people
where are you from?
De donde eres?
It does not matter quien hace la pregunta
it could be a Mister from a pueblo of the North
o una familia whom just came in last night.
Everybody in algun momento me toman by surprise
preguntandome the famous question
to the point that very often,
I become confused tambien.
Sometimes, I think they want to know de que ciudad soy or live in...
I respondo with the name of the City I live in.
No! says the Mister, adonde were you born?
It seems unimportant to them
how long you have vivido aqui
even if sometimes, it means more than tu half-life.
The question siempre will remain:
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
ALLOW ME TO TELL YOU DE DONDE SOYSoy de un little country, the mas pequeño of them all
con aroma a café fresco and lots of colour,
I am from a place where the mar and the sky come alive every night.
I am de donde the people se abraza and care for each other,
where you share with others tears of felicidad and pain,
donde the child next door is also your responsabilidad and where you give your seat to the one who needs it most.
But in that same place, mis derechos were violated tambien
soy from that place that I was forced to abandom in one day
I am from this place whee I landed and was greeted by people with tears in their eyes.
This lugar that one of its lakes is bigger than the place I come from
I am parte of these people that go around el mundo
volunteering sin cobrar.
I am from one of the most humanitarios countries
un país that opens its doors and welcomes people like you and yo.
I came here and brought my fresh coffee smell
and mi yo muticolor
traje mi strength and voluntad to contribute a la humanidad, my smile and my will to work in anything para sobrevivir.
Años and years have gone by, tu tell me where I am from
is it here? or is it there?
or tal vez just a mixed of the two
donde la linea divisoria
of where I am from has faded out
making me of a special and unique blend.
Just like this Spanglish that mucha gente now speak
what is it? It is not Spanish nor Ingles
tal vez es un lenguage mixed or uno especial.
Wherever I come from does not matter, lo que importa is what I share with you and what I have decided to be
Yo soy you and me and please allow me to be!
SOYBarro, volcán y hierba buena
cocotera, huipil y guachipilín
atol de elote, laja de dulce, flor de fuego
madrecacao y un izote en flor.
Soy un sanate y a veces un tamagás,
un tumblimble, un zacatelimón,
zompopo, ziguanaba y un cenzontle soy.
Soy cotón, conacaste y copinol,
Guanaca, producto de tu creación,
orgullosamente, salvadoreña soy.
