Mary Elizabeth Smith/MaryLiz

(Belize, 1990)

She is a Spokenword Artist, educator and fitness coach who holds a B.A. in English Education from the University of Belize.

She is a full time Teacher at Belmopan Comprehensive School where she is currently teaching Integrated English and Lifeskills. She is also an English adjunct lecturer at the University of Belize and an active member of Belize Book and Sip Club where she meets up with other members on a monthly basis to discuss assigned monthly books. She is also a dedicated member of Spokenword 501, a poetry collective based in Belize City.

Her works are featured in the Latino Book Review: Issue 2025, Women in Art 2026 Publication, Macmillan Language Tree Poetry Anthology and in the upcoming anthology Paz Colectiva. 

In March 2025 and 2026, Smith participated in the annual World Poetry Day Festival where more than 400 poets from over 50 countries read more than 1000 poems in a variety of languages. The session lasted 24 hours and people from around the world were able to enjoy poetry for a 24-hour period. Her contributions are set to appear in their forthcoming anthology.

Smith is the owner of GetZenith Fitness, which focuses on physical and mental wellness. She resides in Belmopan City where she organizes and hosts poetry events. She is currently working on her debut anthology which will explore her journey of healing and growth. She enjoys reading, writing and working out.
