Second International Poetry Encounter: “OCTOBER: Along the Poet’s Footprints” This will take place in Santiago, Valparaiso, Isla Negra, Melipilla and Rancagua [CHILE] From October 12th to the 17th, 2006
PROGRAM
Thursday October 12
19:00 hours: Inaugural Act at the House – Pablo Neruda´s Museum-“La Chascona” 21:00 hours: Welcome Dinner
Friday October 13th
Travel to Isla Negra [Visit Pablo Neruda´s Home and Poetry reading before his grave]. Cartagena [Poetry reading before Vicente Huidobro´s gravesite]. Melipilla [Pay homage to the poet Víctor Marín Calquín on the third anniversary of his death]
09:00 Leave Hotel in Santiago for Isla Negra.
11:00 Arrival to ISLA NEGRA, visit to Pablo Neruda´s house, Nobel Laureate [1971].
12:00 - 13:00 Poetry Reading before Pablo Neruda´s and his wife Matilde Urrutia´s gravesite. 14:00 - 15:00 Lunch in Cartagena.
15:00 – 16:00 Free time to for a walk on the beach.
16:30 -18:00 Poetry reading before Vicente Huidobro´s gravesite.
19:00 - 22:30 Poetic Cultural Event at the Social/Cultural Centre, Los Guajiros at Melipilla to pay homage to the poet Victor Marin Calquin on the third anniversary of his death.
22:30 Return to Santiago, arriving at the hotel approximately at 23:30.
Saturday October 14:
08:30 Travel to Valparaiso
10:15 – 11:30 Visit Pablo Neruda´s House-Museum La Sebastiana.
11:30 – 13:00 Poetry reading at la Sebastiana to pay homage to the First Anniversary Of the Poets of the World Movement..
13:30 – 15:00 Lunch in Valparaiso
15:00 – 16:00 Visit Valparaiso.
16:30 - 18:30 Visit to Carrasco Palace and reception by Viña del Mar writers.
19:00 – 20:30 Poetic Act in Reñaca hosted by the Reñaca Cultural Centre at the Hotel Piero.
21:00- Dinner at Hotel Piero´s, Reñaca
Sunday, October 15:
Travel to Rancagua, [Program in charge of our Consul at the VI Region, Irem Toal]
08:00 Departure from Santiago
10:00 Arrival to Sewell [It was a mining City up to the ´70s, and today is a tourist attraction and has been recognized as a patrimony of humanity by UNESCO in Vinius Lithuania. Sewell is one of the five sites in Chile granted the status as patrimony to humanity together with Easter Island, [1995]. the Chiloe Churches [2000] Valparaiso City old core [2003] and Humberstone and Santa Laura nitrate Offices [2005].
10:15 – 12:30 Welcome, book presentations and poetry reading by local and international authors.
13:00 – 14:00 Lunch
14:15 – 15:15 Visit to the City.
15:30 Return to Rancagua.
16:30 – 17:30 Homage to Oscar Castro [1910 – 1947] Poet of the earth, he was born and lived in Rancagua; his work is recognized throughout Chile.
18:00 – 19:30 Reading act in San Fernando [30 Kms. South of Rancagua]
20:30 – 22:00 Musical Dinner in Rancagua.
23: 00 Return to Santiago.
Monday October 16
09:00 – 13:00 Presentation at the National Institute University.
13:30 – 14:30 Lunch.
15:00 – 16:00 Visit to the Presidential Palace La Moneda.
16:00-18:00 Visit Schools and Jail, Poetry reading.
19:00 Poetic Act
21:00 Dinner.
Tuesday October 17.
11:00 - 13:00 Book Presentations and Closing Act, Sala America at National Library
13:30 - Typical Lunch at the Central Market. The building was built between 1868 and 1872.
16:00 – 17:00 Visit to the House - Museum “La Chascona”. This house belonged to Pablo Neruda
